(Yet Another Potty Training Update)
A couple of weeks ago, Bunny had a nasty flu-like bug. During that 48 hour period, not wanting to deal with the dreaded "D-word" that accompanies these kinds of illnesses, I began putting her on the potty in earnest. I bought chocolate truffles and told her that if she went on the potty, in addition to the truffles, she could have any kind of candy she wanted. Anything. She is used to getting an M&M here and there as a potty reward, but allowing her to name her price, so to speak, was unheard of. Bunny's no fool. She knows a good thing when she sees it. Therefore, she requested:
- a truffle (she got half)
- 2 candy corns (how sad that we still have a pack left over from Halloween treats)
- a lollipop (see "candy corn")
- some yogurt raisins (I like to think they are a healthy treat even though they so AREN'T.)
I put them all on a plate and that was her snack that day. Makes me ill just thinking about all that sugar, but any amount of candy was worth not having to change those dipes.
So, I think we've got it now. It's been about two weeks and she's been doing both kinds of business in the potty. She doesn't request a diaper anymore, just lets us know she has to go. She takes great pride in her "creations" ("Look! It's a snake!") and we make a big deal about them, too. J. and I hover over the potty and clap wildly for poop while Bunny beams with delight.
I thiiiiiiiiiink the diapers are gone for good, at least in the daytime. The one night Bun-Bun wanted to go diaper-free overnight was the night she woke up with the flu. It could have been bad. Thankfully, it was not. I'm not ready to try that again. Maybe in a week or so. But if she requests a no-dipe night, I'm willing to give it a try.
