If you live in Oakland, you are lucky because you can go to Bakesale Betty's anytime you like. If you don't, it's worth the drive over to 51st and Telegraph to experience one of their legendary chicken sandwiches. Used to be they only made chicken sandwiches and strawberry shortcake. Now they've added a chicken pot pie to the menu and a variety of baked goods. The line was halfway around the block when we went, but it was worth the 20 minute wait. And about half-way into the wait, Betty herself (not her real name) came out and gave everyone free (giant, tender and delicious) apricot-almond scones and thanked everyone for coming. Her attention to details like doing one thing and doing it the best you possibly can (she's achieved perfection in her sandwich), and providing excellent customer service are two reasons why we will keep coming back.
