If you happen to love rye bread like I do, you have to give the Finax Swedish Rye Bread mix from IKEA a go. It comes in a carton and you add warm water to it, shake it, pour the batter into a loaf pan*, let it rise, then bake it.
It seriously could not be easier. It's homemade bread without the mixing and the kneading and the proofing, and it's A.MA.ZING. It's rustic and chewy, replete with whole grains and just a bare hint of sharpness. If you aren't a fan of sourdough--and I am not--you will still enjoy this hearty bread. The sourdough flavor isn't overpowering.
If you have an IKEA near you, head to their market and bring some of this mix home. If you are lucky enough to try it with a couple of slices of Boccalone Orange and Fennel salame, I highly recommend it. Heavenly.
* For the right shape for the bread, I recommend using the long, skinny, European loaf pans available at IKEA. They make smaller rectangular slices which is great because the bread is so dense. The pans are also great for making meat loaves, too!
